About
Here is a story –
We were two friends and both of us graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Economics. She was well connected and got a job in a bank making us all jealous of her. As I moved from one job to another, looking for the perfect job, I told her I started working in a new place, close to home, with a good salary and that I also received stock options.
“Oh, that’s nonsense,” she said, “The bank also offered us options, but we won’t really make any money out of them, it’s just nonsense,” I believed her, after all, she was a bank employee.
Who knew then what a startup is?
Hi, my name is Shouly Uzan.
I was fortunate to be a part of the initial core of startups that succeeded big time.: Galileo, which was sold to MARVEL for $ 2.7B, and Annapurna, which was sold to AMAZON for $ 370M. After a while, I advised other start-ups and worked for some of them, some were unsuccessful and others I hope are on the way…
What made it so successful? – Is it simply the money that makes it so successful? And is money the goal or the result? Is it luck or hard work?
It was a time of discovery, growth, and professional development as well as a time when we were pushed over the edge as individuals and as a team.. On a personal level, we paid a high price for our hard work..
Our daily work often consisted of raising our voice, arguments, laughter, admiration, excitement and tears, and all of this yielded results.
Success was sweet and addictive, and the side effects didn’t take long to manifest. And so, after many years as CFO (sometimes also as the VP of HR in parallel) in an intense, challenging, almost addictive but not really balanced environment, I decided to pack all my experience, insights and tools I gained over the years in the high-tech world as well as in other areas (including coaching, mediation, groups’ training, photography, Tour Guide, and more) and pass on this diversified experience.
My expertise comes from understanding the difficulties of all levels of the organization, , both managers and employees. I came from this environment, I have lived it every day for over 25 years, I know very well what it looks, feels and sounds like.
I am well aware of the challenges almost all of us face, such as: the desire to succeed, the pressure to succeed, the need to please others, meeting goals, organizational politics, communication failures, fear of change, jealousy , frustration, work-life balance, a feeling that time is slipping away and that’s not how I want to live.… as well as the practical aspects of setting up a startup and building the right infrastructure for it to succeed.
So how to deal with these challenges? To me, it mostly depends on the answer to the question “what do I want?”?
I believe that refining what we want is the first step in the journey in order to understand. Understand who I really am, what do I want, where do I want to go, what motivates me, what blocks me, what is important to me, what is really right for me, etc. And after we refine the what, we will build together the how and when.
I trust you that you can, and I trust myself that I have everything I need to help you reach your goals.
